![]() ![]() I'm not a mastering-only engineer, I do a lot of tracking and mixing too. "don't most mastering-only engineers use things like WaveLab almost exclusively? I mean, especially Mixbus is so full of "character", doesnt it imprint the end master files a whole lot?" I am digging the sound, nothing comes close or gets me there as easily. Sometimes I master in Izotope Ozone standalone, sometimes I import the tracks into Pro Tools and master there with plugins, sometimes I just use Har-Bal, it depends. This may become my preferred method for mastering, I really love the rich sound and creamy smoothness Mixbus imparts. The client said the mixes sound "wonderful". I didn't use any channel or bus dynamics for this, just the final limiter in Ozone, which was hardly even active, because it was an acoustic record that did not need to be "pushed". ![]() The channel EQ and filters were helpful, and I dialed in a bit more saturation on the buses and master. I inserted Ozone on all the tracks so I could perform minor corrections with Mid/Side EQ and multiband compressor, and level matched the mixes with the channel trim control. Immediately, I noticed all of the songs sounded better, a bit more lifelike after mixing in Pro Tools, without adding any plugins. So I imported the mixes, each on it's own track, and assigned each to it's own Mixbus. I recently picked up Mixbus32c, and thought it would be a great move to try to master in Mixbus. ![]() I have a number of ways I set up a session for mastering. ![]()
